And the really exciting news for 2012 is that, as part of a new master plan, work will begin on ‘Southwater Leisure Hub‘ which includes an 11 screen multiplex Cineworld cinema and an 82 bedroom hotel as well as seven well known bars and restaurant brands touching down in Telford.

This represents a £20m investment in Southwater by Citygrove Securities PLC in collaboration with Telford & Wrekin Council and will add value to existing leisure facilities such as Mecca Bingo, Tenpin Bowling and the Ice Rink, which will also see significant refurbishment to their frontages.

Public Space

The new Southwater public space will be one of the defining features of the development. The landscape and the public space will provide Telford with a series of distinctive, interlinked and pedestrian dominated routes and quality spaces which will encourage people to sit and enjoy the views and meet friends creating a natural focal point for the socialising and making the most the Southwater environment.

Public Art

Public art is a vital component of the regeneration of Southwater and will be incorporated in a static form to add flair to buildings and public spaces and in an interactive form within Southwater Square through evening projection and dynamic audio visual displays.

Public art is central to creating a sense of place for the community and there will be an opportunity to ‘get involved’ in shaping art within Southwater.

Integration with Town Park

One of the real features of the Southwater development is the way that the new urban landscape fuses beautifully with the existing green space of the Town Park. The development contains a number of usable green spaces that mesh the two landscapes together. The 420 acre town park will remain a major public space offering urban and park landscapes that encourage active and healthy lifestyles for all age groups.
